What was your first book crush? Everyone has one. You know, the first time a book completely captured your imagination, transported you to a magical world, or introduced you to lifelong friends you will never forget? In celebration of Nancy Pearl's new book, Book Crush, For Kids and Teens—Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment, and Interest, Sasquatch Books is sponsoring the What Was Your First Book Crush? essay contest.
HOW TO ENTER:
- Submit an original essay, 350 words or less, describing your first book crush. Tell us about the first book you fell in love with and what made that book and reading experience special for you.

- The Contest begins June 1, 2007, and all entries must be postmarked by August 15, 2007.
- Nancy Pearl, together with Sasquatch Books staff, will judge entries based upon the following criteria:
- Literary quality
- Expressing a passion for books and reading
- Ability to engage the reader
CONTEST PRIZE:
The winning entry will receive a Book Crush Weekend in Seattle, including airfare for two to Seattle, two nights' hotel stay, and dinner with Nancy Pearl. The winning essay will appear on www.nancypearl.com.
RULES:
- There is no entry fee required for submissions.
- You must live in the United States and be at least 13 years old. If your essay is chosen as the winning entry, and you are under 18 years of age, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Winner will be chosen by September 15, 2007, and notified by phone, mail, or email by October 1, 2007.
- Essays will not be returned.
- One entry per person.
- Decisions of the judges are final.
- Sasquatch Books is not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, incomplete, or illegible entries, or for any computer-related, online, or technical malfunctions that might occur in the submission process.
- Submissions are considered void if illegible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, altered, conterfeit, produced in error, or obtained through fraud or theft.
- You will only be notified if your essay was chosen as the winning essay.
- The winning Essay will appear on www.nancypearl.com.
- All federal, state, and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the contest winner.
